The Health and Care Visa is a specific visa route introduced by the UK government to make it easier for healthcare professionals to work in the UK. It falls under the Skilled Worker Visa category and offers certain benefits and streamlined processes for individuals working in eligible health and care roles.

Health and Care Visa

Here are some key points about the Health and Care Visa:

  1. Eligibility: To be eligible for the Health and Care Visa, you must work in an eligible health or social care profession. This includes doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, midwives, social workers, and certain other health and care professionals. You must have a job offer from the NHS, a recognized health or social care employer, or a licensed sponsor.

  2. Reduced Application Fee: The Health and Care Visa offers a reduced application fee compared to the standard Skilled Worker Visa. This makes it more cost-effective for healthcare professionals to obtain their visa.

  3. Fast-Track Entry: The Health and Care Visa provides faster processing times for applications. It is designed to expedite the entry of healthcare professionals into the UK to address staffing needs in the healthcare sector.

  4. English Language Requirement: Like the Skilled Worker Visa, the Health and Care Visa requires applicants to demonstrate their English language proficiency. You may need to take an approved English language test, such as the IELTS or OET, to meet the language requirements. Different healthcare professions may have specific requirements for the English language score.

  5. Length of Stay: The Health and Care Visa allows individuals to stay and work in the UK for up to 5 years and 14 days, or the time stated on the Certificate of Sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter. After this period, you may be eligible to apply for an extension or settlement (also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain) in the UK, depending on the circumstances.
